~ Louis Kim ~

“Little do we sometimes realize as we teach, the student’s connection to us. Shortly after he graduated Louis found time, in uniform, proud as I’ve seen anybody could be, to return to our campus.  He came up to [my classroom] to visit me while he was here that day.  As this does not happen to me every day I found the visit remarkable. We shook hands and we talked about his new adventure.  I will miss this guy, this ex-student of mine, this solider, this gentleman.  My heart and tears go out to him and to all that knew him.”

- Jeff Buchholz, former teacher

“Louis definitely had a sense of purpose in his life.  Underneath that, he was a fun loving guy who valued genuine human interaction and loyalty.  I know that his fellow soldiers would have cherished his values and attitude.  Given where his unit was, the stress his friends were going through and the bonds that were forged….the death of Louis Kim would have been a great loss to those that depended on him.”

-Mike Shaw, former teacher

“Louis was my friend.  He was only 19, but he touched everyone of us in such a huge way. He was a wonderful child. I can't explain to you how much I will miss him. He was like a little brother to me and losing him last week broke me as a man and a soldier.”

- Sergeant First Class Kap Kim, Louis’s recruiting officer

“I will remember Louis, who perhaps is retrospect, touched my life only fleetingly.  I will remember that he paid the ultimate price for what he believed.”

-Sharlom Montgomery, former teacher

“Louis was in my class.  I remember very little about him, but when I saw is picture I remembered his smile and that’s enough for me to feel the loss.”

–Chris Reeder, former teacher
